THE WAVE PRINCIPLE
Vladimir Vasiliev
Lesson 1 – Body and Arms
Lesson 2 – Hips
What is the Wave Principle?
Have you seen a strike of a long whip? A small movement of the handle initiates momentum, the force travels along the length of the whip and the impact is magnified at the tip.
A similar movement can be initiated in the body. A short impulse can start at any connection point in the body and travel as a wave, building power to another target area. There is a quick and smooth alternation of tension and relaxation. For example, from a chest-shoulder connection to the fist, or from the hip-pelvis to the foot.
In this film, Vladimir uncovers how to create the wave and generate the power during exercises, how to utilize the wave for moving along obstacles and lines of attack, for defense, counter-attacks, escapes, strikes, kicks, and takedowns.
You will see powerful whip-like strikes, short intense punches, hits with the open hand, elbow and shoulder, catching the power from your hip rotation all the way to your fist.
Lesson 1 is on generating power through the body and arms
Lesson 2 is on generating power from the rotations of the hips.
Total running time: 1hr 5min.

Working with wave-like movements has always a very interesting for me. Vladimir’s class was more than I expected. There is so much potential for powerful movements. Vlad gave me a lot of new ideas for my training. Thank you for this video. It’s a good one!

Thanks to the wave principle, I am starting to better understand the work with a sword, whip and knive, especially curved blade. It feels very organic.

I have seen and felt the wave work from Mikhail Ryabko. I personally know the power of it… It’s a great principle to practice. It allows you to relax and gives freedom to your movements. From any position, this strike will always work and reach the target. The wave makes it penetrate deeper. For escapes from grabs, the wave can dislocate the attacker’s joint, even when the hold is strong. I find that front strikes and overhead strikes fly well into the chin using the wave. I also use the wave work for massage with ladoshka and other tools. It makes the tapping penetrate deeper and my arm gets less tired. Thank you Vladimir for showing it so well!
