The threat is so close, there is no room to counter-attack.
The space is so small and crowded, you are unable to move.
What can you do? What is the best way to prepare?
In this film, study how to train for close range confrontations.
Let Vladimir take you though the first-class program:
- Start with a unique warmup with rolls into the wall, knife & partner rolls, crawls, flips, and squats in a crowd.
Then move onto the concision drills such as:
- back-to-back with your partner against kicks
- at the wall against multiple attackers
- belt around your fists for strikes, power, and restrained tasks
- short work in standing and in sitting
- reaction vs. intuition skills
- the internal wave to generate power
Master the concise movements – your shortcut to survival and power.
Running time: 48 min

Excellent program, Vladimir! I found these drills especially helpful: against the wall in a very tight space, and with a belt wrapped around the wrists for short strikes. Thank you!

Systema covers many distinct types of combat work; concise or short work is one of my personal favorites. It is quick, direct, unpredictable, and, therefore, difficult to see and respond to. It is also unusual to most traditional martial arts practitioners which puts them at a disadvantage. Concise work is very effective in situations where one’s space is limited or moves are restricted such as in a crowd, confined quarters, when surrounded by multiple opponents, pushed against a wall, or when somebody is trying to obstruct you. I strongly recommend the video to help understand and appreciate the basics of concise work: – efficient and economical moves such as redirecting strikes, delivering powerful short strikes without preparation, i.e., swinging or “cocking” the arm, – delivering multiple continuous strikes in a natural and yet unpredictable flow, – escaping from an attack and counter-attacking at the same time, as well as many other useful insights.

This is a great film! Even though there are other short-work Systema films, the topics this one covers are new and extremely useful. I had never heard of “the internal wave” before, I feel like it really elevated my skill and understanding. A must-watch for any Systema follower!
