GUEST INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM:
Saturday, February 1st – Taka Kitagawa:
- Taka Kitagawa, chief instructor of Systema Tokyo, has over 30 years of martial art experience, teaching and training in Systema since 2005. Taka has been certified and trained by Mikhail Ryabko and Vladimir Vasiliev. For his profound dedication, Taka has received the Ambassador of Systema Award.
When balance is lost, tension in the body is created, a concept taught by Mikhail Ryabko. The human body instinctively prioritizes protecting the head, which leads to reflexive muscle tension to prevent it from hitting the ground. By enhancing our ability to balance, we can reduce the need for this muscle tension. Achieving balance allows the entire body to work harmoniously.
In this class, Taka will explore the practice of equilibrium and its impact on both our everyday activities and martial arts movements.
Sunday, February 2nd – Martin Wheeler:
- Martin Wheeler has been an instructor of Systema under Mikhail Ryabko and Vladimir Vasiliev for 25 years. Martin is a highly sought out marital arts teacher for groups such as the Navy SEALS, DEA, and SWAT teams worldwide. He has spent over 40 years studying Boxing, Thai Boxing, Judo, Ju Jitsu, Kali, and Systema, and has extensive experience using these arts in the field and is currently partnering with Harvard University on a nationwide longevity study.
In this class, Martin will develop the concept of ‘soft work’ for combat. Explore the body and mind sensitivity for all over body flow for defense and attack that is unique to Systema. This training expands into powerful striking techniques, used to control, or nullify, an aggressive opponent, no matter your size or weight.

Daniel Walter –
I have practiced martial arts since I was 16, trying many different styles, and I can say with complete honesty that Systema is the best for combat effectiveness, physical health, and mental fortitude. We are lucky to have Vladimir and his expert instructors teaching us right here in Toronto – many people travel from all over the world to learn.
David Orman –
I have been training in martial arts since 1985 and Vladimir is by far the best teacher I have ever had the great fortune of training with. His classes are exceptional and the art is very challenging. Highly recommended.
