The goal of Systema training is not techniques, but rather unconditionally subtle and precise movements with calm and powerful control over the weapon, the body, tension, emotion and awareness.
When you train with a weapon yourself, you will know and sense how an attacker may be handling it.
In this instructional film, Vladimir Vasiliev shows how to develop 10 skills essential for handgun mastery:
- Calmness
- Internal and external awareness
- Grip dexterity
- Draws – static and dynamic
- Speed work
- Non-dominant hand use
- Subtle work
- Wrist work
- Off-target deployment
- Escapes from gunpoint
Running time: 37 minutes

This was very solid instruction as usual but it was additionally fulfilling in three respects. The first was that in some old black and white Systema videos I once saw someone, who looked like Vladimir, go from standing to prone while drawing his gun in an incredibly swift, fluid movement. I always wondered how that was done, and here were all the details in the class. Similarly, in a film series called Beverly Hills Cop, some villains (motorcyclists) have a way of dropping to the ground, rolling and drawing guns in one motion, and that technique was explained as well. The second point is how effective the online instruction is. At the University of California, Davis, where I work, the martial arts clubs are just coming to grip with online instruction. Systema already has a format that not only works, but has unique strengths. Finally, it is newly amazing to me that someone of Vladimir’s expertise can share such specialized information with the likes of me. That is true of all of Systema, but especially so with the more lethal domain of guns. He seems to be as much at ease with guns as with everything else in Systema, and I cannot imagine the training and experiences that produced such skills. For him to endure all that and emerge as such a generous and helpful person is pretty rare and much appreciated.

Smooth and Slick!!
Like a well-worked gun action, Vladimir goes over some excellent and innovative weapon handling and dexterity drills and also includes drawing and deploying your handgun with smoothness and ease. It’s a great video to develop your personal weapon handling and improve your movement and synergy with the weapon.
No flashy movements or gun play, there is no Hollywood fantasy with the methodologies shown in this new video.
Definitely a solid addition to any firearms training library!!!
Always practice safe and realistic firearms training.

The tactical gun film that I have just watched the first few segments of has served as a huge reminder of how the qualities of Systema should be implemented in all situations, regardless of what tool is being used. Developing smoothness and control of breath, movement, relaxation, awareness, emotions and the psyche.

The work displayed by Vladimir in these classes is highly valuable for professional who work with handguns. Although the best benefit in the work is with a small caliber weapon such as the Makarov or the SRM-1.
The freedom and the tension free work with the handgun one can develops is highly needed by professionals who work with a gun. But one important note is that the freedom in movement required is also easy to apply to ones daily life.
Highly recommend it to people who like to work with guns from a professional view.
