Adam Zettler, of the famous Systema Twins, is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable Systema HQ Toronto instructors, training and teaching with Vladimir Vasiliev for almost 20 years.
In this class, Adam takes you to a deeper level of performing the classic exercises such as push-ups, squats and leg raises.
You will explore the full range of these drills:
- done as a purely physical effort,
- synchronized with the breath cycle,
- filled with breath-generated power.
Such exercises can be used for multiple purposes – for developing strength, enhancing health, and for truly high-powered combative movements.

In this class, I understood that relaxation is possible if I notice tension, whether it is half range or short range on push-ups. I was very interested in the half-range squat posture that we did at the end of the class. I realized that in the half range of squats, it is difficult to recognize that tension occurs in the legs and that it affects the upper body. The experience of noticing the tension and moving into a relaxed state by breathing was very informative. I was able to experience in class that breathing is the key to leading one to a relaxed state, no matter what state one is in. Since I was able to practice in stages, first in a supine position, then in a push-up position, and then in a push-up half-range position, I was able to notice the relationship between changes in posture and tension in the body. It was a very educational class to feel the relationship between breathing and tension. The movements of the participants at the Toronto headquarters are very helpful. It was interesting to see how each of them moved a little differently. I thought it had something to do with the fact that practitioners come from many different countries, so there is a great variety of training. Thank you to Adam, to Systema HQ Toronto team and to all the participants for the valuable learning time.

I highly recommended this film to anyone new to Systema and even experienced Systema practitioners. After watching the films I shared the idea that Adam showed, about filling the body with with breathing before movement with my training partner when we were working on grabs & holds. Both me and my partner truely felt the different energy that comes from working within the breath. Every time I try to grab my partner, he slips away from my fingers in a way that does not give me support to try to grab him again. It worked even better when we were working with eyes closed.
